I grew up watching my mother and grandmother use nature’s remedies — herbal oils and plants, teas and balms to heal and soothe. That early reverence for nature inspired care shaped my understanding of wellness: it should be simple, real, and deeply nourishing.

Before starting Gentle Roots, I was working as a bank manager, a world far removed from natural self-care. But when I became a mother, my priorities and calling shifted. I saw what was labeled “natural” or “gentle” in stores, yet the ingredient lists told a different story. I was frustrated by synthetic fragrances, microplastics, and long lists of chemicals masked by pretty packaging.


I didn’t want that for my daughter, or myself. So I turned to my trusted Face and Body Tallow Balm; a balm that soothed her eczema, healed nappy rash, and moisturised from head to toe. I also use it on my own face when my skin feels dry or stressed especially during the colder winter months, and as my first cleanse to gently melt away makeup, sunscreen, and daily buildup.

One jar with multiple uses, embracing skin minimalism — a core part of the Gentle Roots ethos. Less clutter, more care, and complete peace of mind.

That same ethos of skin minimalism and multi-purpose care now runs through every Gentle Roots creation, designed to simplify routines while delivering truly effective, non-toxic results for the whole family.

Since then, I’ve poured my heart into building Gentle Roots into something more than beauty: creating anhydrous, multi-purpose, non-toxic formulas that put function and skin health first.

I choose ingredients carefully — nut-free, low-allergen where possible, and always kind to sensitive skin. I believe fragrance should never overpower the purpose. Most of our products are fragrance-free, or only scented when the essential oil serves a skin benefit especially for the delicate skin on your face. It’s a decision that’s hard when polished smells are easier to market, but it aligns with my goal: to offer you genuine, transparent, “no fluff” skincare.

Why I Care

When I formulate, I think of the bigger picture — creating a range where there’s something for everyone: gentle enough for newborn skin, effective enough for mature skin, nourishing for dryness, and calming for irritation. My goal is inclusivity, rooted in ancestral wisdom and guided by integrity and efficacy.

Gentle Roots is, quite simply, what happens when love meets intention. From choosing glass over plastic, to refining formula textures (yes, those famous Sea Buckthorn and Carrot CO₂ extracts that needed tweaking so they don’t stain), to building products true to their promises — every detail matters.

The journey doesn’t stop here. I’m constantly learning: exploring new sustainable packaging options, seeking feedback from you, and creating more products that honour both skin and planet. I believe we value non-toxic self care not just for what we put on our skin, but how we live, purchase, and care for what we already have.
