From childhood roots to a growing business…

My journey with natural skincare began long before I ever imagined launching a business. I was raised in a home where nature’s remedies were part of everyday life — watching my mother and grandmother lovingly prepare herbal oils, teas, and balms to soothe everything from skin ailments to colds and fevers. That early reverence for natural and plant-based care shaped my understanding of wellness from the inside out.

Even now, I still turn to homeopathy and traditional remedies when my family isn’t feeling their best — because I truly believe that nature often offers the gentlest, most effective answers.

For years, I quietly made natural products for myself, my family, and close friends — always researching, always refining. But everything changed when I became a mother. At the time, I was working as a bank manager, deeply embedded in that world, when a profound shift happened. I became more intentional, more protective, and increasingly disillusioned with what I saw on the shelves — especially the products marketed for babies and new mums.

So many were labelled “natural” or “gentle” yet filled with hormone disruptors, microplastics, or long ingredient lists I couldn’t trust. I wanted something better — not just for my daughter, but for myself too. I didn’t want a cupboard full of separate products for every little thing. I wanted simplicity, safety, and care I could count on.

And that’s where Gentle Roots was born.

Rooted in nature, made with purpose, and designed for the whole family, Gentle Roots began with one product: my Baby Friendly Face & Body Balm. A single product that soothed my daughter’s eczema, healed her nappy rash, moisturised and protected her skin, and even worked as my oil cleanser. I also use it on my own face when my skin feels dry or stressed – especially during the colder winter months, when my skin tends to need extra care.

One product. Five uses. And a whole lot of peace of mind.

Since then, I’ve poured my heart into creating a range of anhydrous, multi-functional, non-toxic products that are gentle enough for everyone — from newborns to elders. Every formula is handmade by me in small batches, using carefully chosen ingredients. I focus on low-allergen, nut-oil-free blends and offer options that are especially kind to sensitive skin.

When I formulate, I think of all skin tones, all ages, and all walks of life. I believe skincare should be inclusive, uncomplicated, and rooted in care — not trends. My elixirs, for example, took years to refine – finding the perfect balance between visible results and gentle performance, while ensuring the colour worked beautifully across every skin tone.

Gentle Roots is a reflection of the life I live — balancing motherhood, slow living, and a deep desire to help others reconnect with the nourishing power of nature. My values of transparency, simplicity, and respect for traditional knowledge are woven into everything I create, guiding my approach to both skincare and business.

I’ve built everything myself, from the formulations to the website, and while the journey hasn’t always been easy, it’s been one of the most rewarding chapters of my life. Today, Gentle Roots products have made their way into homes across the UK, the US, and beyond. And I’m excited to keep growing, learning, and sharing.
